He's one of the greatest icons of football soccer of all times, yet he looks a bit embarrassed when people start talking about all his incredible exploits. Such a contrast to the "me, me, me look at me" culture!
While somewhat reserved, he nevertheless exudes love. Indeed, Love is clearly his guiding principle: love of the game, love of family, love of his children, love of the world's children. The tenderness with which he speaks of his own children, is very moving. His good works - where he is very hands-on and personally involved - for less fortunate children the world over is truly inspiring.
Though loving, from the anecdotes he shared, Beckham nevertheless, endeavors to inculcate good values in his children. One of the stories he shared was that of one of his sons who kept asking to be given all sorts gadgets, etc. He basically said if you want all those things so badly, work for them! And the kid does: every weekend he serves tables and washes dishes at his local cafe. . .
In a sea of narcissistic celebrities, it is truly awe-inspiring and uplifting to appreciate people like Beckham who, celebrity notwithstanding due to their enormous talent, have remained with their feet firmly planted on the ground, who know what they are all about and thus don't need to be flamboyant or extravagant, and who truly care about helping other human beings.
Quite, quite a role model.
Cheers!
