NOW *THAT'S* HOW YOU BUILD TRUST!!

NOW *THAT'S* HOW YOU BUILD TRUST!!

The Glue That Binds and Builds

Trust is unquestionably the glue that binds relationships together and is the quintessential building block to the creation of wealth in companies and countries a like. Indeed, a while back a study showed that the greater the trust among and between citizens of any given country, the greater that country's development and standard of living. Conversely, the lack of trust among their citizens, placed countries at the bottom of the list with its concomitant poor standards of living.

Trust Is . . .

Thus, the question becomes how does trust come about? Many ways. Backing up words with real and congruent actions. Respecting other points of view. Communicating. Demonstrating a keen interest in the well-being of others. Trusting others and sending messages which reinforce that trust. Leaving no member of the team behind. Having other's backs. Having faith in people; teaching them the skills to advance in life and their careers.

There are myriad examples of trust in action, but one in particular really brings the concept home. As many of you dear readers probably are, I am a great fan of NCIS. If you've been following all the twists and turns of the storyline throughout its many seasons, you'll recall that there comes a point where Ziva David becomes somewhat bitter, feeling betrayed by all, and loosing her compass as to whom she can really trust - in her case, with her very life... Gibbs essentially leaves her in Israel to allow her to sort out her conflicted feelings.

Real Trust In Action

However, as time passes, Ziva falls off the radar screen and nobody appears to know anything about her or her whereabouts. Notwithstanding that she really is not an NCIS agent, and no longer even affiliated in any way with NCIS - not to mention the additional fact that when she was bitter with grief, she behaved rather abominably with Gibbs team, most especially with her fellow-agent Tony DiNozzo who all along had just tried to protect her - Gibbs' NCIS team becomes very worried about her well-being and begins applying their considerable forensic skills to finding her. They trace her to a camp in Africa.

What did they do next? The one thing they did NOT do, was sit on their hands, relaying the information to others with all the delays the bureaucracy can entail. Against all odds - including an order from Director Vance - and the incredible danger involved to their own lives, Gibbs' team immediately chose to act. To go into the camp and bring her back home.

DiNozzo and McGee get themselves captured by the man holding Ziva, get severely beaten up, and were on the verge of getting themselves killed, when they along with Gibbs successfully rescue Ziva and bring her safely back to Washington, D.C.

If Ziva ever had any doubts about who really and truly cared for her - not using her like her very own father - and who considered her an integral part of their team and would always have her back and never leave her to her luck, they had to have been erased forever.

If there ever was a way to build trust among and between team members, that's certainly one of them. Trust in and through action.

The End
